Some Lawmakers want to Lower Age Limit for Bus Drivers

Writer: Lucky KnottLucky Knott

A new bill in Tennessee proposes lowering the school bus driver age from 25 to 21. This amendment to Tennessee law aims to increase the number of eligible drivers and address transportation shortages. Many school systems and private companies are struggling to find enough drivers.

If approved, the change will take effect on July 1, 2025, giving districts time to adjust. While supporters highlight opportunities for younger drivers and maintain safety standards, critics question experience and qualifications.
