Some Big Lots Stores to Remain Open

Writer: Lucky KnottLucky Knott

It’s been roughly five months since discount retailer Big Lots filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. In that time, the company has closed or is in the process of closing more than 500 stores, down from nearly 900 stores nationwide.

Recently filed court documents, however, suggest hundreds of stores could remain open.

As 931News previously announced a sale agreement with Gordon Brothers Retail Partners. As part of the deal, Variety Wholesalers is set to acquire 200 to 400 Big Lots stores, which would retain the Big Lots branding and two distribution centers.

According to the court filings, if approved, some locations could continue to operate as Big Lots under Variety Wholesalers. This would include the store in Tullahoma. Other Tennessee locations listed were Clarksville, Cleveland, Columbia, Dickson, Gallatin, Greeneville, Jefferson City, Johnson City, Knoxville, Morristown, Murfreesboro, Rogersville, and Sevierville.
