The Estill Springs Police Department wants to remind drivers that three factors contribute to a driver’s total stopping distance: perception time, reaction time, and braking distance.
Even for an alert driver, it can take anywhere from ¾ of a second to 1½ seconds to react to a road hazard and another 5 seconds to stop once the brakes have been applied. Every second matters!
Increase your following distance and pay attention to the task of driving to help keep Tennessee’s roads safe.
Remember, slow down and put the phone down.
