The Coffee County Sheriff’s Department has received calls again regarding a phone scam that has been done in the past, which is happening again. The callers identify themselves as members of the Sheriff’s Dept and advise victims that they have an active warrant or other process for missing court or grand jury. The scammer demands the victim pay a fee to satisfy the warrant so they will not be arrested. The phone scammers are requesting to pay via prepaid credit card or other forms of payment.
Please know this is a scam, and no one at the CCSD will contact you by phone or request payment for anything. DO NOT give out personal information. Hang up and call your local law enforcement agency immediately. If possible, please note the number at which you received the call. Some of these callers are showing up from numbers associated with CCSD. If you or anyone you know has fallen victim to this, please notify your local law enforcement.
