Manchester Man Sentenced to 25 Years for Deadly Wrong-Way Crash in Louisville

Last week, a man from Manchester, Tennessee, was sentenced to 25 years in prison following a fatal wrong-way crash that occurred in Louisville, Kentucky. The incident took place in August 2022 when Thomas Catalina drove over 100 miles per hour in the wrong direction on I-65 South, near the Kentucky Exposition Center.

Catalina pled guilty to charges including vehicular homicide while under the influence, three counts of wanton endangerment, assault, and driving under the influence. Initially, Catalina faced a murder charge, which was later reduced to vehicular homicide.

The crash resulted in the death of 26-year-old Rajnu H. Masoud from Bowling Green. Catalina collided with multiple cars, causing his pickup truck to catch fire. Catalina and two others sustained injuries and were hospitalized.

According to documents, Catalina admitted to an officer that he had used methamphetamine several days before the crash but could not specify when. He confessed to being under the influence of drugs and driving as fast as his vehicle would allow.
