John David “Johnny” Payne, age 82 of Winchester, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Pelham on March 2, 1942, to the late Willie David and Mamie Elizabeth (Jackson) Payne. Johnny served his country in the United States Army. He owned and operated JP’s Pawn and Gun Shop until his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed bird hunting, especially quail, but most of all cherished the time spent with his family and friends. Johnny grew up attending the Methodist Church in Pelham and was most recently a member of the Winchester Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Celia Maxine Payne. Johnny is survived by his loving son, Darrin Payne; brothers, Ricky Payne, and Jacky (Kaye) Payne; nieces and nephews, Todd Payne, Tiffany (Chris) Vaughn, Tara (Justin) Babb, Jamie (Brandon) Hall, and Kelly (Jordan) Williams; many great-nieces and great-nephews; cousins, Billy Marlow, Teresa Jackson Bennett, Sherry Jackson Cardwell, Lewiskaye Jackson Brown, Gordan Jackson and Tracy Marlow; and many other extended family members. Visitation will be from 1-2pm on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro.
