James Leland Green, age 93 of Huntsville, Alabama, formerly of Franklin County, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Francisco, Alabama, on February 7, 1932, to the late Clayton and Sally (Pogue) Green. After graduating from Huntland High School in 1950, he joined the United States Air Force, serving as a military policeman. On November 6, 1952, James married Iris Schultz, a union that lasted sixty-nine years. In 1959, he graduated from Middled Tennessee State University and began his teaching career. James taught and coached for thirty-three years at several schools, including Santa Fe (TN) High School, Blanche (TN) School, Central (TN) High School, Huntland (TN) High School, Butler (AL) High School, Franklin County (TN) High School, and Tullahoma (TN) High School. He also served as principal for Huntland Schools from 1980-1986. A devoted Christian man, he was a member of Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Green; son, Gary Lee Green; and brother, Glenn Green. James is survived by his son, John Steven and his wife Heather; grandson, Garrett; and granddaughter, Hannah, all of Huntsville, Alabama. Visitation will be from 1-3pm on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Michael Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Huntland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
