Franklin County Girls Soccer Team Secures Region Championship

In a thrilling showdown at the Region 4AA championship game, the Franklin County High School girls soccer team delivered a spectacular performance, clinching a resounding 6-0 win against the Livingston Academy Lady Wildcats on their home field.


From the outset, Franklin County dominated the game, establishing a commanding lead early in the first half that they maintained until the final whistle, securing their fourth consecutive regional title in style.


Head coach Kent Bean lauded his team for their outstanding display, singling out their defensive excellence as a key factor in their triumph. The team drew motivation from remarks made by Livingston Academy head coach Heather Marshall, who had expressed confidence in her team's offensive abilities in the lead-up to the match.


Bean credited his players for rising to the challenge posed by Livingston Academy, commending their determination and defensive prowess in shutting down their opponents. He stressed the importance of maintaining such high levels of energy and motivation for future games, highlighting the team's relentless spirit.


Noteworthy was Bean's personal milestone, as the victory marked his 100th win as the head coach of the FCHS girls soccer team, underscoring the significance of the achievement for both him and the team.


Scoring Highlights:

  • Laura Buenrostro opened the scoring with a goal

  • Cali Banks and Riley Howell swiftly added to the lead

  • Gracen Baggett scored before halftime, solidifying a 4-0 lead

  • Osiris Rodriguez extended the lead to 5-0 with a well-placed shot


Rodriguez and Buenrostro each tallied their 17th goal of the season, emphasizing Franklin Counties offensive dominance this season.


With a comfortable six-goal lead after Buenrostro's goal with approximately 27 minutes left on the clock, Franklin County installed substitutes to secure the team's ninth shutout of the season.

Franklin County's record now stands at 16-3-1, propelling them towards the upcoming sub-state match. The team is scheduled to play against Lenoir City High School at home on Saturday in a crucial match for a spot in the state tournament. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
