A former employee of Fayetteville High School has been charged with rape following an investigation, officials announced on Wednesday.
According to Tennessee District Attorney General Robert Carter, Chris Edward Cagle, 55, from Toney, Alabama, was booked into the Lincoln County Jail on Wednesday.
Cagle faces four counts of statutory rape by an authority figure and has since been released after posting a $40,000 bond.
The charges arise from an investigation by the Fayetteville Police Department prompted by reports of an inappropriate relationship between a Fayetteville High School employee and a student.
Statement from Fayetteville City Schools:
“Fayetteville City Schools has learned that a staff member has been accused of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a student. Law enforcement officials are conducting an investigation, and the staff member has resigned. All questions regarding the investigation should be directed to the Fayetteville Police Department. We will continue to support the police investigation in any way we can. In the meantime, our focus is on the safety and wellbeing of our students.”
Officials say Cagle resigned from his role within Fayetteville City Schools and will appear for an arraignment hearing on May 12, 2025.
