June 14, 1944 - February 28, 2025

David Franklin Barnes, age 80 of Winchester, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Harton-Vanderbilt Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma. A native of Franklin County, he was born in Sherwood on June 14, 1944, to the late Charles C. and Pauline (Jackson) Barnes. Raised in Sherwood by his wonderful parents, David attended Sherwood Elementary School and Franklin County High School. A proud American, he served his country in the United States Air Force from April 1965 until October 1968. A 1979 graduate of Motlow Community College where he earned an A.S. Degree in Business Technology, he then went on to earn his B.S. Degree in Business Administration from Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee in 1990. Before his retirement, David had been employed by the United States Post Office, AEDC Commissary, University of the South, and Franklin County Solid Waste. When he was able, he enjoyed attending gospel singings, eating breakfast and handing out snack cakes with friends at McDonalds and Hardees, and visiting grocery stores to visit with other patrons and community members. But most of all, he cherished the time spent with his beloved family. David was a dedicated member of Sherwood Emmanuel Apostolic Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beautiful and wonderful wife of fifty-one years, Beverly Jean Garner Barnes; sisters, Charlcie Barnes, Linda Barnes, and Teresa Wiseman; and in-laws, Wilbur and Louise Garner. David is survived by his loving children, Todd (Stephanie) Barnes, and Derrick Barnes; siblings, Clinton (Imogene) Barnes, Tony (Mary) Barnes, Susan (Bob) Prince, and Marvin (Tammy) Barnes; grandchildren, Nora, Noah, Taylor, Cameron, and Lily; great-grandchildren, Lula, Emmy, and Cayson; brother-in-law, Edward (Shirley) Garner; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Monday, March 3, 2025, and 11am-1pm on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro. Todd Barnes officiating.
