On Tuesday, the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office was notified about a possible suspicious package at The Caverns in Pelham. The information received came from Chattanooga Police due to an ongoing investigation in that city. The item was reported as a potential threat to public safety, and the alleged package owner gave this information.
Deputies responded to the scene, confirmed the item's presence, and immediately evacuated the area as a precaution. The Chattanooga Police Department’s Bomb Squad and the ATF were notified and promptly responded to assist with the investigation. The bomb squad safely secured and destroyed the item. Upon further examination, it was determined that the package contained only a musical instrument (accordion).
Chattanooga Police confirm that the same person who reported the possible bomb in Pelham forced the lockdown of several City of Chattanooga facilities Tuesday morning. He is now in custody.
